Are you reliable, resilient, and ready to take on the winter? We’re hiring a dedicated “Cold Crew” of Crossing Guards for a short-term contract during the peak winter months. This special winter team will ensure student safety at designated school crossings and act as mobile ambassadors supporting our regular staff across multiple areas.
This is an ideal opportunity for individuals comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and looking for steady part-time work in January and February.
You must reside in Postal Codes - M4,M5 (no exceptions)
JOB SUMMARY – What will you do?
Under general supervision of and reporting to Field Supervisor, crossing guards are responsible for conducting safe and friendly crossings of pedestrians at various crosswalks.
Specific Duties:
- On-call deployment to cover last-minute absences, no-shows, or offer quick break relief.
- Coordinate the flow of pedestrians across selected intersections with the flow of vehicular traffic.
- Exercise sound judgement and determine safe gaps in traffic for crossing purposes.
- Communicate clearly and effectively to crosswalk users regarding safe and unsafe crossing practices.
- Display a school crossing stop sign (approximately 2-5 pounds) in an upright position to ensure it’s visible to vehicular traffic approaching from all directions.
- Document and report any incidents, accidents, injuries, hazards or suspicious persons/vehicles to the Field Supervisor and appropriate Police and School officials.
- Wear safety equipment at all times while on shift.
- Obey all established safety regulations to ensure pedestrians are assisted in crossing roadways at designated locations.
Job Requirement
- Availability for all 37 working days (January and February 2026)
- Willingness to work in harsh winter conditions
- Strong punctuality and reliability
- Comfortable working independently in the field
- Valid VSS (Vulnerable Sector Screening) – reimbursement provided post-contract with full attendance

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE – What you will bring?
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Keen alertness to surrounding and ability to follow directions and procedures.
- Ability to maintain high degree of mental concentration, with visual and hearing ability to recognize traffic at a safe distance.
- Ability to walk pedestrians safely across busy intersections and react safely and decisively to traffic conditions.
- Ability to work in diverse weather conditions (cold, snow, heat, humidity, wind etc.)
- Be punctual and remain on the assigned location for the duration of shifts (mornings, lunch and dismissal)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Work Schedule:
- Split shifts:
- Morning: 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM
- Midday: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
- Afternoon: 2:45 PM – 4:15 PM
- Minimum 5.5 paid hours per day, Monday to Friday
- Contract runs for 37 working days total (Jan–Feb 2026)
